How much do online SDR (sales development rep) jobs pay?

SDR pay splits sharply on one question: who owns the list. If the employer hands you names and a script, you sit near the bottom of the roughly $6 to $20 an hour band. If you research the accounts yourself, write the sequence, work email, LinkedIn, and phone together, and book meetings the account executive is glad to take, you sit near the top. Selling into a technical or enterprise market lifts it again, because ramping on a complicated product and a longer buying committee is genuinely harder. Almost every offer adds a bonus per qualified meeting, and some pay only on meetings that are actually held, so ask which one is being counted before you sign anything. Covering US business hours from Manila usually carries a premium over an Australian or Singapore territory. Your employer pays you directly in USD, base and bonus alike, and FindTalent takes none of it.

Skills employers look for in SDRs (sales development reps)

  • ICP research you can defend: Expect the question: build me a list of two hundred accounts in our market and tell me why those. Learn Sales Navigator and Apollo filters properly (headcount, hiring signals, technology installed, funding), then explain the reasoning out loud. Employers are testing your judgment about who to skip, not whether you can press export.
  • Sequence design across three channels: A sequence is a plan, not a mailshot: which touch lands on which day, what each channel is for, and when a prospect exits. Sketch a realistic two-week cadence mixing email, LinkedIn, and calls, and be able to explain why the call sits where it does. Bring one you have actually run and the reply rate it produced.
  • Personalization you can repeat at volume: Employers ask for a cold email sample and read the first two lines only. The skill is finding one specific, checkable thing about the account in under ninety seconds and opening with it. Build a research checklist so this takes minutes rather than half an hour, then write three sample emails for the employer's own product before your interview.
  • Qualification frameworks: BANT and MEDDIC come up constantly in SDR interviews. Learn what each letter means and, more importantly, which questions you would actually ask to test it in a seven-minute call. Then be ready to say when you would disqualify a friendly prospect. Passing weak meetings through is the fastest way to lose an SDR job.
  • Sequencer and CRM hygiene: Apollo, Outreach, Salesloft, and HubSpot sequences are the tools listed most often. Say which you have built inside, not just used: templates, A/B steps, exclusion rules, and unsubscribe handling. Log every touch with an accurate disposition on the day. Your manager coaches from that data, and blank fields make you look inactive even when you are not.
  • Owning your own funnel numbers: Track activities, connect rate, positive replies, meetings booked, and meetings held, weekly, in your own sheet. Put your meetings-booked-per-month on your profile as a number. Applicants who quote real conversion figures and can explain a bad month get interviews ahead of applicants who describe themselves as hardworking and motivated.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get an SDR job with no experience?

Yes, though it is more competitive than pure phone work because employers want research and writing as well as voice. Customer service, BPO, or retail sales all transfer if you can name targets you hit. Build proof before applying: pick a company you admire, write three personalized cold emails to real roles there, and attach them. Almost nobody does this.

Are part-time or night-shift SDR jobs available?

Both, with an honest catch. Calls have to happen inside your prospects' working hours, so a US territory means an overnight shift in the Philippines, while email and LinkedIn work can shift around your day. Part-time roles of twenty to twenty-five hours exist, usually built around one solid calling block. Choose the shift you can hold for six months.

How do I get paid?

Directly by your employer in USD, typically through Wise, PayPal, or direct deposit, and the meeting bonus arrives the same way. FindTalent never takes a cut of your pay. Get the bonus terms in writing: what makes a meeting qualified, who decides, and whether it pays on booking or on the meeting being held.

What equipment do I need?

A reliable computer, a noise-canceling headset with a boom mic, and at least 10 Mbps with mobile data and backup power behind it. A second monitor pays for itself when you are researching an account with the sequencer open beside it. Employers normally provide the dialer, the sequencer, Sales Navigator, and CRM access.

How fast can I start?

Profile review takes 1-2 days. SDR hiring usually runs an intro call, a short cold call role-play, and a written exercise, so two to three weeks from application to offer is typical. You can shorten it by attaching your writing sample and recording a voice intro, since those cover two of the three screens before anyone speaks to you.

How is an SDR job different from an appointment setter or cold caller job?

Appointment setting and cold calling are usually volume roles: a provided list, a script, and a target number of dials. An SDR owns the whole top of the funnel, builds the account list, writes the outreach, works three channels, and qualifies before booking. A closer or account executive then owns the deal. The pay reflects that wider scope.

What happens if I miss quota?

You will carry a target, usually meetings booked or held per month, and you will miss it sometimes because list quality and product-market fit are only partly in your control. Good managers review your funnel numbers with you before judging you. Ask in the interview what a realistic first quarter looks like and how many SDRs hit target last month.
