How much do online sales representative jobs pay?

Your rate as a sales representative moves with how much of the cycle you can carry on your own. At entry you work warm or inbound leads on a defined pitch with your manager listening in. At the top of the roughly $6 to $22 an hour span you own a segment end to end: prospecting, discovery, the demo, the negotiation, and a forecast your manager can actually plan from. Deal size and cycle length matter more than years served, so reps selling five-figure software or financial services earn well above reps selling low-ticket subscriptions. Fluency in a named methodology (SPIN, Sandler, MEDDIC), real confidence on camera, and a CRM you keep current all push you up a tier. Nearly every offer adds commission on closed revenue, so take-home usually sits above the hourly figure. Your employer pays you directly in USD.

Skills employers look for in sales representatives

  • Discovery questions that price the problem: Almost every sales interview includes a mock discovery call, and the quickest way to fail it is pitching before you ask. Prepare five questions that put a number on the problem: how often it happens, how many hours a week it eats, what the last twelve months of it have cost, who else has to sign off on fixing it. Then summarize what you heard before you present anything. Interviewers listen for that summary specifically.
  • What not to say when the price lands: Four reflex answers lose mid-cycle deals, and interviewers are listening for all four. Do not say "I can probably do something on the price" before you know what they are comparing you against. Do not say "we beat them on value" the moment they name their current vendor. Do not say "no problem, next quarter then" when budget timing comes up, because that is you closing the deal for them. Do not say "let me send the deck over" and then hang up without a date. What works instead is dull and repeatable: ask what the comparison is, restate what changing nothing costs, put one concrete next step on the calendar.
  • Holding a room on camera: Most international employers interview on Zoom and expect you to sell on it afterwards. Test your lighting, framing, and audio beforehand, look into the lens when you make your key point, and keep your energy up without pushing volume. A recorded voice intro on your FindTalent profile is often what gets you to that video stage at all.
  • Same-day activity logging (HubSpot, Salesforce, Pipedrive): These three come up most often in job posts. Employers ask which you have used because a rep who leaves stages and next actions blank makes the whole pipeline impossible to forecast from. Name the systems, say that you log activity the same day rather than in a Friday catch-up, and mention any dashboard or report you built yourself.
  • Deciding which deals are real: You will be asked how you choose what to work on this week and how you judge whether a deal is real. Have a specific answer: recent buyer activity, a confirmed decision-maker, an agreed next step already on the calendar. Reps who call their own deals accurately, losses included, get handed the bigger accounts.
  • Prospecting and account research: Many remote sales jobs expect you to build part of your own list. Learn LinkedIn Sales Navigator filters and Apollo.io well enough to explain how you would build a list of 200 target accounts in the employer's market. Bring one example of a list you actually built and why you picked those accounts over others.

Frequently asked questions

Can I get a sales representative job with no experience?

Entry-level roles exist, though they are more competitive than appointment setting. Customer service, retail, or BPO experience counts if you can point to targets you hit and numbers you remember. Expect a roleplay rather than a resume screen, so rehearse a fifteen-minute mock sales call out loud. Starting on inbound or warm-lead work and moving to full-cycle selling once you have results is the usual route.

Are part-time or night-shift sales representative jobs available?

Full-time is the norm because open deals need consistent follow-up, but part-time roles do appear on inbound and warm-lead teams. Your shift follows the market: US accounts mean a night shift in the Philippines, Australian and Singapore accounts sit close to Manila hours, and UK accounts fall in between. Check the type on each listing and the shift in its description before you apply.

How do I get paid?

Directly by your employer in USD, typically via Wise, PayPal, or direct deposit. FindTalent never takes a cut of your pay.

What equipment do I need?

A reliable computer, a webcam that copes with low light, a noise-canceling headset, and at least 10 Mbps with a backup connection, because a frozen video call in the middle of a demo can cost you the deal. A tidy, quiet background helps on camera. Employers usually provide the CRM, the VoIP line, Sales Navigator, and a scheduling tool such as Calendly.

How fast can I start?

Profile review takes 1–2 days. Sales hiring normally runs two rounds, an intro call and a roleplay, so most offers land within two weeks of applying. Having your numbers ready (quota attainment, average deal size, typical cycle length) speeds things up more than anything else, because it removes the employer's biggest uncertainty about you.

How does commission usually work?

For a full-cycle rep the number that matters is not the percentage, it is the quota sitting behind it. Ask what the quota is, what share of the team actually hit it last quarter, and how long the ramp runs before you are held to it in full; one to three months is normal, and an employer who ramps you by week two is telling you something about the role. Ask whether quota is measured on new revenue, total contract value, or cash collected, because the same commission rate pays very differently under each. Then ask what the accelerators look like above target, since that is where reps who beat quota do their real earning.

How is this different from an SDR or appointment setter role?

An SDR or setter opens conversations and books meetings; a sales representative carries the deal through discovery, presentation, objections, and the close. Rep roles pay more and are measured on revenue rather than activity. Many people spend a year setting appointments, keep careful records of meetings that converted, and use those numbers to move across.
